A Keen Eye for Potential
With a degree in Construction Engineering from Cal Poly, Mike began his career in the booming San Francisco bay area. By 1990, he had overseen the development of 23 office buildings and more than 600,000 sq ft of interior improvements.
Having an eye for diamonds in the rough, Mike began converting warehouses and industrial spaces into lofts and live/work units, including the 247 Fourth Street project and Tower Lofts in Oakland. In 1998, Horizon Partners completed the Brickhouse Lofts in London Square, which was awarded the Golden Nugget Best in the West Rehabilitated Commercial or Industrial Project.
Turning his sights north, Mike entered the Puget Sound region in 1999 with the renovation of the historic Schoenfeld Building in downtown Tacoma. Bringing 100,000 sq ft of Class-A office to market earned awards from both the City of Tacoma and the local development council.
Since then, Mike and his team have purchased and renovated 11 buildings in Tacoma's downtown core and earned honors from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Currently, they are working on the design and construction of Brewery Blocks Tacoma, which includes the revitalization of two square city blocks - a $125 million effort.
